Fabric and eCommerce unite.
United Fabrics
A website designed for the modern wholesaler. United Fabrics came to us toward the tail end of their rebrand with the exciting task of building a custom eCommerce system in BigTree CMS that encouraged creative collaboration and established a curated experience for users.
Key Takeaways
- Custom checkout experience
- Multi-tiered login system for customers
- Complex compound filter for product searches
Creating the virtual showroom
The homepage for United Fabrics’ site acted as the front door and lobby for their digital presence, and as such needed to make a stunning first impression. We created a flexible feature space that acted as a virtual showroom for United Fabrics to promote their new products and new collections. We also utilized a product search that made finding items efficient, especially with filters that allowed customers to confirm type, color, pattern, brand, price, etc.
Getting down to the design details
The design approach for United Fabrics was extensive and incredibly collaborative. Our guide for this project was the main United Fabrics brand; however, we expanded and evolved well beyond that to create a design system that was highly customized and tailored for the website experience. The depth of the United Fabrics design is one of a kind—and can be found in the elaborate details: hand drawn icon sets, unique background patterns, highly detailed photography, and small flourishes (such as the scalloped edges). Every aspect of the United Fabrics design system was included deliberately, resulting in a truly rich experience—and one that represents our design expertise and dedication to excellence.
Encouraging artistic collaboration
Virtual project spaces provided customers the freedom to creatively combine products together as they drew inspiration from United Fabrics’ offerings. The sample lab and swatch boards gave customers the opportunity to save products to one or more projects, share those lists with colleagues, and easily make purchases.
Curating the customer experience
It was essential that the new website integrate easily and efficiently with the United Fabrics data system in order to organize and structure the user experience that each individual user encounters on the site. We utilized a multi-tiered login so a customers’ experience could be defined by the relationship that user had with United Fabrics, which meant that data had to be date and accurate This data sync created a customized experience for each person, down to the purchase process, form visibility, and ability to access the collaboration toolset which were in the form of a Sample Lab and Swatch Board Project Builder.
